Good news!

I heard something last week that hurt my heart. I was standing in a news room when I heard someone mention a shooting and a stabbing. One lady smiled at me as I was leaving so I asked her why nobody was reporting any happy news. The answer I got was, “because there is none.” I told her she was wrong. There is a blue genie that is reminding us that there is happy news and its worth talking about and the people responsible are worth acknowledging. Thank you, experience genie.

Kitchens of India

this is the most amazing stuff ever. i stumbled upon it a few months ago while looking for coconut milk at dominion. just heat and eat. what is better than ready to eat indian food? there might be a few things, but i cant think of them at the moment. i have been in love with indian food for a long time. the buffet at the india gate? words cannot describe how happy it makes my belly. ive also been making a coconut curry pasta for several years with varying types of noodles, chicken or shrimp, raisins and vegetables. i dont usually buy ready to eat or instant food. so why this one? IT COMES WITH A CD! thats right. for $3.99 at dominon ($4.99 at sobeys), you will find the most delicious curries, ready when you are AND you get an amazing cd of indian music to play while you cook and enjoy. so people think i’m crazy? so what! i love eastern culture and food and have had a hard time finding good ambient/background indian music, i’ve asked the owners of several indian restaurants what they’re playing because i love it and if i walk in and they’re playing radio music, i want out! so far, the packages at dominion contain a set of classic duets, while the ones ive picked up at sobeys contain a colors of indian music set. thats my five am rant to calm my brain. pick it up. try it out. sharing is caring. visit their website for more info : www.kitchensofindia.com!

October 6.2010

I sat next to an old lady on the plane. Everytime she fell asleep, I was afraid she was dead. I read most of the way home and arrived in St. John’s as per schedule. My bag was one of the last to show up on the conveyor belt. I came home and gave all my love to my kittens. I dropped everything and fell asleep. I only planned to take a nap but I slept for four hours. It was awesome.

When I got up, I went to the gym. 8 limb muay thai moved and the new gym is SWEEEEET! Our new phone number is (709) 237 - knee. If you wanna get in shape or fight or just hit stuff, call us up. I left and picked up food at the grocery store. When I got home, I got an invitation to go to The Keg for nachos, so I put my food in the freezer and went to the Keg for nachos. They took forever but they were great. I played wii when I got home and went to bed and had some weird dreams about our fighters from the gym. They were silly. But Britt and Ken were fighting so my dreams were awesome!

When I got up today, I fed the cats and myself and did a quick update to the website. I went to the gym just for a visit but ended up training and sparring and having lots of fun. I thought I was going to die because I have not thrown a kick or a punch at anyone in over three months but apparently riding across the country is good for your cardio. Tonight I am having pizza and playing wii. Tomorrow I will find a job! Shania Twain is awesome! Peace be the journey!

October 5.2010

I am currently sitting on a cold floor at the Toronto airport. I did not sleep because the plane was too warm. It is 7am. The flight is delayed. But only by 15 minutes so I will still be in St. John’s around noon. I don’t like flying. I don’t like sardines and I don’t like feeling like a sardine squished in a flying can. And boarding begins…

October 4.2010

I already did an update. I wrote it outside of the west Edmonton mall, which was Saturday but I guess it was accidentally while I was actually trying to edit it. I wrote popular instead of population and POOF! No more blog. So here goes again.

Karaoke was awesome! I would be happy to do that every Thursday night. I even got up and sang some country tunes! I put a twenty dollar bill into one of the machines and left with $106! I hung our with Herb and Darren and Brian when they were done playing hockey. It was fun.

Friday I went to Edmonton to so some errands with my brother. Apparently he doesn’t like big cities either and he cursed the entire way in. We stopped for food at the mongolian grill which charges by weight. Both our meals cost $29.40. Coincidence? I think not. Brothers? For sure! Even though Herb didn’t finish his and I had extra rice with mine. LOL! He picked up some things for the renovation he is doing and picked up some bait at work because we decided to go fishing. We picked up Darren and headed for the river. We were unsuccessful but I had fun. Then we went looking for places to put up a new tree stand before heading home and calling it a night.

Saturday I got a ride into the city and walked a few kilometers to the west Edmonton mall. I was lost before I even stepped through the front door. Why is there a skating rink in the middle of the mall? The mall would be much smaller if there wasn’t two or three of every store. Some of them have three or four… Under one roof. Silly mall builders.

There were a million things I wanted to try. In the end I just clapped like a child while watching the roller coasters in galaxyland before I saw the fire breathing dragon outside the imax theaters. And then it was time for BUNGEE JUMPING!!! I chatted with the guys for about twenty minutes before we headed up to the platform. They had as I lay dying playing… 106 feets above the pool. It was pretty cool. I stepped to the edge and jumped off. Its really weird to fall and fall and fall and not hit the ground. I had to visit the casino and then decided I had spent enough time in the mall.

In the end the population did not turn into zombies and I survived the hordes and the fall. Myself and Suzanne headed out in search of food. She suggested Julio Barrio’s and it sounded great to me. We had an amazing meal. The staff was awesome. Good salsa. Good rice. Good times. The place was packed. we explored the city some more before going dancing. I gave lessons and that ended my time in Edmonton.

Sunday was a lazy day. The boys were out and the glades was on TV. I watched the new episode with Nikki and Lisa and we had a bbq and I bought a ticket home… I’m going to miss my brother and sister and Bruderheim and that comfy blow up mattress.

Today I got up and Herb decided we would go fishing again. We loaded up the boat and drove and drove to the lake. We were told there would be some good fishing. The rain stopped as we set out into the lack. My brother caught a jackfish and a perch but both of them were too small to keep. I caught what I catch best… NOTHING! But I had fun. We headed back to. He shore and went home so I could pack up. We are on our way to the airport. I fly out at 12:50am. First we are going for food. I don’t know where.

I plan to sleep on my flights. Flying is such a hassle. Ill be in St. Johns around noon and on my Katmamdu shortly after. It will be weird to be home with the kittens but I guess it needs to be done. See you soon Newfoundland. Peace be the journey!

October 2.2010

Karaoke was AMAZING! I could do that every Thursday night. And yes, I sang some country tunes! Yeehaw!

Yesterday I went on some errands with my brother. He cursed his way into the city to get some things for the renovation he is doing. We stopped at the mongolian grill for lunch. Each plate was $29.40. Coincidence? I think not! Brothers? For sure! Then we decided to go fishing so we went to his work and got hooks and bait. Darren joined us and he headed for the river. We were unlucky and left empty handed but I was fishing and that’s all that matters to me. After checking out some spots to put a new tree stand, we went home.

I was tired so I did some reading and some thinking and went to bed. I’ve got a million stories to write. Today my big bro dropped me off on his way to work and I walked to the west Edmonton mall. I was lost before I even got inside. So today I’m hanging out and shooting guns and bungee jumping and going on lots of rides… If I find the time to fit it all in. It should be fun. The mall would be a lot smaller if they had only one of each store instead of two or three or four. Silly mall builders.

TTFN! If you don’t hear from me soon… The population of the mall turned into zombies and I’m using my skills and knowledge to slay them one by one. BRAAAAAIIIINS! Peace be the journey!

September 30.2010

More silly dreams! This time Justin Beiber had a mohawk! It was terrifying!

In other news, I’m falling more in love with Bruderheim everyday. I can’t believe my brother is moving into the Fort 30 kms away in two weeks. It rained Tuesday! It rained hard. After a hot day and a hot evening, I was in my room with the window open and two fans blowing. By morning I was a ghost popsicle. Because of the rain, I didn’t get to do any farming. The fields were too wet to do any harvesting. But after doing some shopping in the Fort, we went playing hockey. I wore gear that was too big for me. My shoulder pads were like six feet wide! It then came to my attention that I have not played hockey in seven years. It showed. I must have looked like a fool chasing the puck and missing shots but I had fun. If i could only learn to stick handle and shoot, this hockey thing would be easy as pie… I love pie. Either way, my team (the White Team) defeated the Black Team. Then we went to the pub for wings. We had hot and salt and pepper and terriyaki and honey n garlic and all dressed. Boys need wings after playing hockey! Very important!

Yesterday I updated my resume and applied for jobs. I applied for 31! I was going for a walk around town when Nikki decided she wanted chinese food. We went to the local restaurant and she ordered half the menu… we took most of it home. I used the lucky numbers provided by our fortune cookies to buy lottery tickets. We are gonna win! Then myself and Herb went to Darren’s to make jerky! We listened to the Oilers win their home game in a shootout and cooked up the last of the deer! It was pretty dang good.

Today was a beautiful day. I went for a long walk. On the way, I made friends with a catapillar and was even offered a ride back into town. I walked more and looked for more friends but the cows were not interested. Silly cows. Tonight I am going to karaoke night in Bruderheim. I have heard it is the thing of legend! I am about to venture into the night! I’m so excited!

Wish me luck! I hope to update the website tomorrow… and win the lottery… Then all will be right with the world! Sing your lungs out world! Live the dream! YOU CAN GO YOUR OWN WAY!!!!! Peace be the journey!

September 27.2010

Last night I had a foolish dream. It was so silly and fun that I had to sleep in to enjoy it all.

In my dream I had seen a commercial on TV for a product very similar to guitar hero. This was a completely new system that only play these types of games. The guitar plugged into a converter that connected to the TV and voila! Little cartridges of guitar hero happiness. I don’t remember what it was called but I rode my bike, trailer and all, to future shop to have a look and evaluate the product.

Once there, I parked my bike in an aisle just outside the electronics section. Why I didn’t leave it outside, I’ll never know. Anyway, I went about inspecting the guitars and the songs that came with the package and the game.  I spent some time discussing it with a family because I wasn’t sure if the guitars were backwards compatible and could play guitar hero games and I couldn’t seem to find cartridges to buy separately. It seemed that each new guitar came with a different cartridge of songs to play and they were priced around $68 each. The guitars had some pretty funky designs and some cool new things but only had three strings. I couldn’t get my head around that. The game was designed to give the player a more realistic feeling while playing… but three strings?!?

While I was inspecting the guitars and asking the employees about the specs, the store began closing. I decided not to buy the game but got a remote controlled helicopter instead. When I went to get back on my bike, one of the employees had taken it apart because it was “taking up room in the aisle”. I was a little annoyed but I started putting everything back together so I could ride home. Because I was only going to the store, I didn’t have my tools with me so I couldn’t re-attach everything. When I asked one of the employees for help, they had to call several over. They asked what needed to be done and I told them I just needed an allen key because I didn’t have my tools. They started blowing up my tires…

Theres a difference between making a mistake once and making a mistake 1000 times. Fast food places have this down to a science. Order your chicken grilled and its coming crispy. Order a burger without onions or pickles and you’re getting an extra surprise. Order the same burger with extra onions or pickles and you will go without. This happened in my dream. I must have told two different employees that they were letting air out of my tires and that I only needed a tool to fix everything five times. They continued… I started to get frustrated. I just asked for a manager and grabbed everything from these guys.

In the end, the vavle was broken on my front tire and my rear tire had four broken spokes! FOUR! I was not happy. I explained the situation to several managers. I just needed a tool. Someone took apart my bike without so much as asking me. I wanted my spokes replaced so I could go home. They were of no help to me and my stuff ended up outside. I WAS OUTRAGED! I didn’t want money, I didn’t want to sue, I wanted a tool so I could reassemble my bike and four spokes because I told the workers not to touch my tires…

The rest of the dream was completely foolish. I put something in the door as they were closing up and decided not to leave until my bike wss fixed. Someone came by and gave me enough food for a week. Some people supported my cause and came to hang out in the store with me. In the dream, in my head, it was turning into some kind of bank robbery/hostage situation. I just wanted my bike fixed so I could ride home but it was fun so I stayed in bed all day to continue the foolish fantasy. Good times.

In real life, my brother and I were going to go fishing tonight but we didn’t have any bait. We visited his friend Donnie and ended up on the farm, shooting clay pigeons with a shotgun! I’ve never fired a shotgun before. My video game practice should have made me a pro… it did not. Either way, it was fun. Darren came out and joined us. The sun went down so we came home for supper.

I just watched the new episode of House. I made a new/old friend. It is time for bed and more silly dreams. Tomorrow should be lots of fun. I’m going to help out on the farm and play hockey with the boys tomorrow night. Sweet dreams! Peace be the journey!

Pincher Creek!

Score one for Mother Nature!

My brother has turned into a hunter. He loves it. Just like I love fighting. He thinks about it all day, he has all kinds of hunting gear lying around the house and his friends are hunters. He wears camo like I wear 8 limb apparel. For his stag party, he went hunting with some of his buddies. And I was invited! Thursday morning we were up before the sun. We were in the truck around 6am and picked up his buddy Darren before heading to the farm to pick up the trailer and Darren’s Rhino. Then it was time for breakfast. Darren had just got off the night shift and I love my sleep so we napped and caught up on some sleep on the seven hour roadtrip south! When we were awake, we talked about life in Alberta and the Hudderites. I’ve got a decent beard going, I might have to visit one of their colonies and make some friends!

We stopped at Bass Pro Shops along the way. This is heaven on earth for hunters. There are antlers on every wall and boats and stuffed animals and camo gear and camping gear and rifles and bows and fishing gear! My brother and Darren were like kids in a candy shop. I even found myself a new hat! We continued south, past Calgary and headed for Pincher Creek/Lynx Creek. I finished the zombie survival guide. It was a little intense but definitely an interesting read. The sun was shining and the wind was intense as we left Pincher and headed west for the mountains. We abandonned civilization and headed deep into the woods to find adventure and animals!

In total, there were ten trucks and five travel trailers. Herb’s future father and brothers in law were there. I met all his hunting buddies and the three amazing dogs they brought along! There were also two rhinos and ten quads to take us on trails and deeper into the woods. We went for a ride and a walk up a mountain Thursday evening before the sun went down. The view was amazing. There was ugly weather coming over the mountains to the west. The wind was cold and the sun began to set so we returned to camp for supper before sitting around the fire.

Friday morning we were up before 6am again and it wasn’t warm! We got some coffee and went for a drive with with Mike and went for a good walk, searching and calling for whitetail deer and elk. We saw one mule deer on the walk and three cow elk before we went back to camp for breakfast. After breakfast, we heading into the mountains. Mike, who has an amazing eye, saw a group of sheep on a mountain many miles away. Upon closer inspection, we spotted eleven sheep, mostly rams, near the summet of a mountain just outside BC. The wind was howling and cold rain was coming down sideways. My brave brother headed up the mountain with Mike to get a better look at the rams. They didn’t want to shoot anything that wasn’t legal. The rest of us went on another trail up the other side of the mountain. It got cold and the boys came down the mountain so we headed back to camp. On the way back, we spotted another mule deer. I wanted to run with it through the trees but thats just me. Myself and Darren went for a walk before it got dark. We followed some tracks and saw some evidence of a local bear but in the end we just went back to camp and sat around the fire when everyone else showed up.

The boys stayed up late Friday night so most of the group slept in Saturday morning. Even though I went to bed hours before everyone else, it was a great excuse to sleep in. When we did get up and have a huge breakfast, we decided to pursue the rams on the mountain once again! This time, the sun was out and the sky was blue. There were no clouds in the sky. It was beautiful. This time, Mike and Mark decided to head up the mountain side while we watched from below with binoculars. I got a really good view of the action just a little up the trail. While we watched the sheep, a huge bull moose came up behind us. No one had a moose tag but once again, I wanted to make friends. The moose got away from me so we went further up the mountain. In the end, no one got a shot off so we went looking for animals elsewhere. Mark did get some good footage of the sheep though.

After more exploring and calling, we didn’t see any animals so we headed back to camp again. Phone service is not great in the mountains. I had to go a few kilometers outside camp every morning and stay still in one spot just to send my good morning messages. As soon as we got back to camp, a small white tail deer leaped from the woods and crossed the road. I jumped into the freezing creek to wash the dust and dirt off myself while everyone else thought I was insane and got a shower in this amazing invention. Water from the creek was pumped through a hose and a heater attached to a quad into a sheltered shower. Too high tech for me while in the woods. The creek was refreshing and reminded me of my days in Holyrood. Mike cooked up some elk steak and I had to try it. It was the most amazing piece of meat I have ever tasted. So while I will still limit my red meat and pork intake whenever possible, I won’t turn down any elk. Frank also cooked up perrogies and I ate enough for three. We sat around the fire and told stories. I went to bed early again.

This morning we got up and packed. We got on the road about two hours earlier than expected after saying thank you and saying our goodbyes to everyone. We took a detour and went looking for some animals in the fields. There were some buffalo and some wind turbines. Then we hit the highway. I started reading I hope they serve beer in hell. It is well written. It flows very easily. We stopped for Subway and drove through a rainstorm before making it back to Bruderheim for supper.

Nikki proved to be amazing once again. Supper was waiting on the table. There was a chicken breast for me with mashed potatoes and corn and an amazing dessert. She didn’t enjoy it because of the texture but it was a delicious slop! Everyone is gone to bed. Work in the morning. Real life, who needs it? Tomorrow I hope to explore and make friends with some cows. Maybe a hunting expedition or fishing tomorrow evening. Once again, goodnight. I’m smiling. I hope you are too. Peace be the journey!

September 22.2010

The Joey Moss Cup game was pretty good. Joey sang the national anthem and dropped the puck. The game started slow but picked up near the end. The blue team dominated play and won 3-0.

I slept in today. My knee was really bothering me, even lying down. I did a bit of reading and then kicked around with Herb and his buddies, getting stuff ready for tomorrow. We came home for an amazing dinner. Stuffed chicken breasts with green beans and baby potatoes with a dill dressing. Apple crumble with vanilla bean icecream for dessert. I might just have to move in if Nikki keeps cooking like that.

After dinner we got all packed up and went to get groceries. We now have everything we need for the weekend. We stopped by the pub for a game of pool and some ice for the cooler. We also managed to win $60 on the machines while we were there.

Tomorrow we are going hunting. We have a long drive ahead of us. Up at 6am and out the door by 630. It should be fun. I get to wear a lot of camouflage gear and play in the woods. We will be gone until Sunday so I probably won’t be updating or sending good morning messages because I doubt ill have service in the foothills. I hope to have lots of pictures and a few good stories when we get back. Stay safe! Have a good weekend! Into the wild! Peace be the journey!
